The outer fabric is a medium weight 100% organic cotton canvas. The top portion has been hand-dyed using a combination of Weld and Madder root, while the bottom is a solid indigo. The vegetable-tanned leather strap will last for years to come and will continue to soften and develop a beautiful patina as it ages.

Every bag is hand dyed in my Lakefield, ON studio using natural dyes. The use of the traditional Japanese shibori dye technique creates diverse patterns that make each bag unique.
Botanical Dyes Weld and Madder root
The fabric used in this bag has been hand dyed in our Lakefield area studio using natural dyes Weld and Madder root. Weld (Reseda luteola) is the most light fast of the yellow dyes, used by ancient tapestry weavers in Central Asia, Turkey and Europe. Madder (Rubia tinctorum) is one of the oldest and most frequently used traditional dyestuffs known to man. It has extensive history in Turkey, India and Iran where it is still being used for dyeing knotted and woven carpets.

The vegetable tanning process produces some of the sturdiest, most durable leathers available. The long and slow traditional techniques used to process the hides for vegetable-tanned leather means that vegetable-tanned leather goods continue to soften and develop a beautiful patina as they age.Colour
